Name:               Mason Granger

Hometown:       Philadelphia PA / Willingboro NJ

Current city:     Astoria, Queens NY

Occupation:     Mayhem Poets, writer & performance artist

College:           Rutgers University- New Brunswick NJ

Mason Granger began creative writing as a regular (and later co-host) of Rutgers University’s weekly poetry open mic Verbal Mayhem.  In 2005, he joined up with Kyle Rapps and Scott Raven T as a member of the performance poetry group Mayhem Poets.  The trio performs everywhere from LA to the UK, from colleges, prisons, playgrounds, to children’s theaters, taking their unique brand of performance poetry to audiences across the globe.

In 2008, Mason wrote & published Food Fight, a short story book illustrated by award-winning animator Kirsten Lepore, using his wildly imaginative poetry to promote a message of healthy nutrition.  Food Fight is available for purchase here.

In 2010, Mason teamed up with New Era, the official hat of major league baseball, as a part of their Flagbearers campaign:

“They are musicians, artists, athletes, and writers.  Making a difference.  Changing perceptions.  Doing what they do because they love it.  Simply, flying their own flag.  With vision and inspiration, and always, with style”

See the official New Era video here.

Featured in Vibe, Spin, Fader, and other major magazines through 2011, Mason is proud to be a part of this campaign that so fits his own personal philosophy, even working hand-in-hand with New Era to design his very own sky blue Team Earth hat.

Mason continues to stretch and redefine the boundaries of ‘what is poetry’ with his performance videos.  From comedic short films to musical collaborations to international poems filmed on the cliffs of Norway, even odes to his beloved Philadelphia sports teams, Mason’s writing will always reflect his core belief: “keeping it real” means acknowledging all your sides.  And no matter what happens, he will continue to just do wit.
